$The Red Hand of Ulster in the middle of this mural and in most of the murals is predominantly a Loyalist symbol but is also used by the Catholics as well. One of the only symbols used by both fractions. Legend has it that 2 chieftains were racing across the water to claim the land. In a bid to lay first claim, one of the chieftains chopped off his right hand and threw it ashore. Not the most peaceful way to start a nation$

$Most of the local shopping precincts, the heart of any community, were no longer used. Their owners tired of the danger and intimidation long gone. With their windows boarded up and adorned with the local fractions graffiti, the mothers of the area therefore had to travel downtown to do there weekly shopping.$
